My New Focus On Flash Gaming

There are three primary areas that Adobe is focusing on for the future of Flash: video delivery, enterprise applications, and gaming. As part of this effort, the evangelism teams are being restructured around these three areas. Moving forward, my new primary area of focus will be on helping to shape the future of Flash gaming. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that I will stop blogging and doing tutorials about other areas of Flash. It simply means that you will start seeing some gaming content thrown in there as well.

This new mission is pretty exciting because it is an area that is almost completely new to me. I’m definitely not what you would call a gamer and I have very little experience developing Flash games. For me the idea of building games has always scared me a little. It just seemed so freaking complicated to me. But as I’ve been researching the last month or so I have realized that it is not really any more complicated than other areas of Flash. It’s really just about learning some new frameworks and being extra careful about performance.

There are many exciting gaming-related features coming to the Flash player like GPU-accelerated 3D and support for gaming controllers. My goal will be to make learning these new technologies as easy as possible for you.

I am joined on this team by Mike “FlashGen” Jones, Tom “P2P” Krcha, and we are being led by my Latin Flash Tour comrade Enrique “Hen” Duvos. Now I have to go and do some research by playing Bejewled Blitz for a while :) .
